Classroom Reading Banners & Posters

Repeated Exposure to Written Words Enhances Reading Skills

Young students need plenty of affirmation and encouragement when they start to read independently. Learning to read can be a struggle — and students who consistently feel frustrated reading are at risk of avoiding the task altogether.

This phenomenon is called learned helplessness and occurs when individuals actively avoid activities due to repeated frustration and perceived failure. If a student sees peers succeeding in the classroom setting while they are personally struggling, they may feel upset and believe they will never learn how to complete a task.

Educators, you need high-quality posters to inspire children to push through and continue reading. Reading increases an individual’s understanding of vocabulary, comprehension of material, and syntax. It’s a great mental exercise that promotes a student’s academic achievement.

Here’s the simplified, step-by-step science behind how the brain works when observing high-impact classroom decorations:

1. Adding colorful visual displays to a learning environment automatically enhances memory retention because an individual is likely to look at stimulating images.
2. Once a poster is observed, the occipital lobe sends the visual information throughout the brain.
3. Upon receiving information, the temporal lobe identifies the words and their meaning.
4. The frontal lobe helps pull all the words together and process the text.
5. High-impact decorations are designed to spark interest in a topic, so the text from the visual display will activate the limbic system or the emotion-processing center of the brain.
6. Finally, the information transforms into imaginary visions by returning to the occipital lobe!

This happens just by reading a vibrant, motivational poster on the classroom walls! With repeated exposure, these processes become faster – letting children read and interpret the text quickly.

That’s why stimulating visual aids in the classroom are so important. Students need mental stimulation and encouragement outside of classroom lectures and slideshows. Decorations provide consistency throughout the school year and help with reading automaticity.

Read!

When it comes to early learners, less is more because oversaturating a learning environment with stimulating posters can distract and dampen the educational value.

The READ poster pack from Sproutbrite includes four capital letter prints that spell out “read.” The bold rainbow background paired with an easy-to-read white text will capture any young student’s attention in the classroom.

This display is perfect for a reading corner, specialized with books and cozy decorations to encourage a love for reading. School hallways and libraries will come alive with these brightly colored posters displayed in their space.

When observing this classroom poster, there is no room for interpretation — just read!

What Can Reading Do For You?

As children read more frequently, their brains become faster and more efficient at interpreting a text.

And, when participating in educational activities — like reading for fun — the brain creates white matter. The more white matter in the brain, the quicker the mind can communicate information to the conscious mind!

As the reading process becomes streamlined, the white matter quickly sends information across the brain, causing the mind to form vivid images about book characters embarking on their quest.

Reading Will... Banner Pack

Educate your students about everything reading can do for them with the Reading Will… banner pack from Sproutbrite. The poster features four suggestions for what reading can do for students: Expand your mind, shape your dreams, take you on an adventure, and inspire you to think big.

Dreamers, scholars, and adventurers can all identify with one of the images displayed on this decoration. The bold colors and stunning visual displays will motivate students to pick up an exciting book and get reading.

If educators choose to display this poster pack within the classroom library, consider adding nearby book collections featuring open sea adventures, space exploration, and fairytales. These themes will perfectly match this Sproutbrite poster design and provide suggestions for reading exciting stories.

From the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy to the depths of the ocean, reading will take your students on fantastic, dreamlike adventures.

Read Today, Lead Tomorrow

Children have an aptitude for remembering rhymes — think of all the nursery rhymes taught in preschool! In fact, young children have a better ability to remember rhyming words than adults, making rhyme an excellent tool for educators to encourage reading.

Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader Banner Pack

Students aspiring to become tomorrow’s leaders need critical reading skills and excellent text comprehension. That’s why Sproutbrite designed this stimulating visual display for young readers.

The words reader and leader only have a one-letter difference, providing a visual display of the similarity between the terms.

Additionally, the Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader banner pack supports the development of phonemic awareness – the ability to identify and manipulate sounds.

These decorations are printed on 100lb poster paper, making the banners durable, sturdy, and visually striking. With a rainbow of colors and strong illustrations, this poster will be hard for any student to miss.

To make this decoration even more impactful, use this display in a classroom lesson plan about rhyming. Pretty soon, you’ll have students eager to identify vocabulary words that sound similar!

How to Use Reading Posters for Classroom Spaces

One of the best parts about purchasing new posters for your classroom is actually finding a home for them in the room.

While it’s a great idea to put a handful of reading posters near the reading corner, you also want to ensure you’re strategic about your placement so that your students get the full effect.

You should keep a few things in mind as you begin decorating your classroom:

• Could you place posters on a bulletin board? Bulletin boards are great places to focus on a subject or topic that can ignite discussion among your students. Use one of Sproutbrite’s reading posters on a bulletin board to keep track of what everyone’s reading in the classroom library!
• How far apart is each poster from another? Studies show that walls with too much visual information could have the opposite effect on students. Ensure that your posters take up no more than 80% of your wall space.
• What material are you using to place your posters? You may feel tempted to hang your posters up with whatever you can get your hands on, be it a stapler or tape, but experts recommend using something easily removable that won’t damage the posters, like glue gum. This way, you can easily rearrange your classroom’s reading posters without accidentally ruining them!

With these in mind and Sproutbrite’s colorful reading posters, you’re well on your way to creating a fun and inspiring space for your students.
